As a photographer, I’m always seeking new ways to capture the essence of a moment. Recently, I had the opportunity to explore the streets of Warsaw and Lublin with a Pentax 67 in hand. This classic film camera, known for its incredible image quality and robustness, was the perfect companion for this journey.

For this experience, I chose to use Kodak Portra, Kodak Gold, and Ilford HP5 films. Each of these films has its own unique characteristics that helped bring my images to life. Kodak Portra is known for its exceptionally smooth and natural color reproduction, perfect for portraits and urban landscapes. Kodak Gold, on the other hand, offers vibrant colors and great sharpness, making it ideal for capturing the finest details. Lastly, Ilford HP5 is a high-speed black and white film that provides great flexibility, allowing me to work in a variety of lighting conditions.

From the get-go, the Pentax 67 allowed me to see the world in a different light. Its waist-level viewfinder, which requires you to look down to compose your images, made me more aware of my surroundings and allowed me to capture scenes of everyday life in a more intimate and personal way.

But what truly made this experience unique was the subject of my photographs: Ukrainian refugees in Poland. Through the lens of the Pentax 67 and the Kodak and Ilford films, I was able to capture the harshness of their reality, but also their resilience and hope. Each image is a testament to the impact of the conflict on their daily lives, but also their strength and determination to keep moving forward.

The Pentax 67 not only allowed me to document this reality, but it also helped me connect with the people I was photographing. Its classic design and manual operation draw attention and spark conversations, allowing me to get closer to the people I was portraying.

In summary, my experience with the Pentax 67 and the Kodak and Ilford films on the streets of Warsaw and Lublin was unforgettable. It not only allowed me to capture powerful images, but it also gave me a new perspective on the world and the people who inhabit it. If you’re a photographer looking for a new way to see the world, I recommend you try the Pentax 67 and these films. They won’t disappoint.
